Aubameyang joined Barcelona from Arsenal in January and scored 13 goals in 24 games for the Spanish club.
He has a buyout clause in his contract worth 100 million euros (£83.4 million), but he has only appeared in eight minutes this year.
Chelsea would add the 33-year-old as their sixth summer acquisition.
The Blues also acquired English midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa for £20 million, Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £34 million, Spain left-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £60 million, and Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan for a combined fee of around £70 million.
If Aubameyang is acquired, Todd Boehly, the chairman of Chelsea, will have spent nearly £250 million during his first transfer window.
