TOPIC: How To Overcome Depression (I) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 25 August 2022)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 24, 2 Chronicles 25, 1 Corinthians 16:5-24, Psalm 102:18-28
FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 19:1-18 (KJV)
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15 And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
MEMORY VERSE: ” Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.” – Proverbs 12:25
A big part of depression is feeling really lonely even if you’re in a room full of a million people.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP:
Pray about everything, worry about nothing!
PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
I BANISH THE SPIRIT OF DEPRESSION FROM YOUR SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
MFM Devotional For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and can interfere with your daily life. It has been identified as a medical and emotional problem with its spiritual components. Proverbs 12:25, the Bible says, “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.” A heavy heart is one that is filled with sadness. The mood of such a person will be dejected.
Both believers and unbelievers sometimes experience depression. Both the rich and the poor also do. There are stories in the Bible where certain people experienced depression: Moses (Numbers 11:10-16), David (Psalm 51; Psalm 32:1-5), Elijah (1 Kings 19:1-18), Job, Jonah (Jonah 4:1-11), Psalmist (Psalm 73). In case you or someone you know is battling depression, there is hope as well as a way out.

First, let me make it clear that God does not want His children to be sad, although He might permit it sometimes for a reason. The Bible says we should always rejoice (1 Thessalonians 5:16). Proverbs 17:22 tells us, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” The Bible also says that the joy of the Lord is our strength.
How do people get into depression? Proverbs 12:25 has the answer: a heavy heart. That is, a heart full of anxiety, worries, sorrow, pain, and unmet need and expectations. God does not want you to allow these negative emotions to occupy your mind. They are not good for your physical health, emotional and mental health as well as spiritual health.
When you worry and exhibit fear and anxiety, the implication is that your faith will develop wings and fly out. Faith and fear, doubt and anxiety do not co-habit. When you exhibit anxiety and worries, you are simply implying that God cannot meet your needs. You will lose your connection to God, your true source, and still, leave in lack. If you can develop and increase your faith in God and keep believing Him at all times, depression will be far from you and you will see the glory of God.
The divine prescription for dealing with depression is in Philippians 4:6-7. Believe it; Memorise it, confess it and claim it!
- The Lord Almighty shall supply all my needs, in the name of Jesus.
- Spirit of depression, I am not your candidate, in the name of Jesus.
- Anything in my life cooperating with the spirit of depression, come out by fire, in the name of Jesus.
- O God, send Your fire against the arrow of depression and uproot it from my life, in the name of Jesus.
- I speak woe to any mountain of depression confronting my life, in the name of Jesus.
- Every power using depression to cheat me of my blessings, die, in the name of Jesus.
- I shall never experience depression again, in the name of Jesus.
