Jack Draper advances to the US Open third round.
Jack Draper has attributed his outstanding performance at the US Open to his training sessions with British legend Andy Murray. In order to advance to the third round in New York, the young British player defeated sixth-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets.
Draper defeated Auger-Aliassime in a remarkable 6-4 6-4 6-4 triumph in just his third Grand Slam match. The British player never let up a break, leaving the Canadian with no chance to return the serve.
A year prior, Draper was struggling to establish himself in the lower-level Challenger series and was not among the top 250 players in the world. The British player made a strong first impression during his encounter against Novak in the second round at Wimbledon 2021.
The 20-year-old has trained alongside Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, and Dan Evans at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Roehampton, and he claims that time there has given him the confidence to trust in himself.
He added
All the hard work that I’ve put in the last few years is for these moments,” Draper added. “Obviously it means a lot to me, but all the people around me that support me on a daily basis, that go through the highs and lows with me. This is a great moment.
On Friday, Draper will play World No. 31 Karen Khachanov. Draper is mindful of the threat posed by the Russian, who has advanced to two Grand Slam quarterfinals in his professional career and eliminated Norrie from the French Open earlier this year.
